Filtering NDNU E-Mail Explained
Your accounts. Even before you start, the Office of
Information Technology (OIT) will create your network accounts. Your
accounts will allow you to login to the NDNU network and access resources. Along with the Domain account, an e-mail address is assigned to your account
and a Postini account is created.
Viruses and Spam. NDNU provides a 1st tier quarantine service against viruses and spam e-mail messages for our e-mail system. The quarantine service is hosted by a company called Postini. How does Postini work How do I Access the Central Quarantine System How do I forward or delete quarantined messages How do I configure Junk e-mail settings Postini scans all incoming e-mail sent to ndnu.edu for viruses and junk mail. Incoming messages are preprocessed before they get in our local e-mail server. Messages containing viruses and junk mail (spam) are quarantined in a personal message center located at login.postini.com. Messages quarantined in the message center will be held for 14 days, then deleted automatically by the system. Postini notification is sent to your e-mail account if it has quarantined a spam/virus-laden e-mail message. Postini will advise you to click on a link and evaluate the e-mail message. You, as a user, have the ability to manipulate the message - forward it to your inbox or simply delete the message. You, as a user, also have the ability to change the default quarantine settings to comply to your specific needs.
