Policy on Harassment and Discrimination

The University is committed to maintaining a stimulating environment of work, study, and recreation of its students, faculty, administration, and staff. In pursuit of this goal, the University will not tolerate any behavior by a faculty member, administrator, staff member, or student, which constitutes sexual harassment, discrimination, or other inappropriate action.

Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of sexual nature when:
  • Submission to such conduct is made explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of the status of the student in a course, program, activity, or work situation.
  • Submission to or rejection of such conduct by the student is used as a basis for academic or job-related decisions affecting the student.
  • Such conduct has the purpose or effect of substantially interfering with the educational, or work experience of the student by creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive academic/work environment.

Discrimination

In keeping with the University’s policy against discrimination, all student complaints of alleged discrimination based upon race, color, age, marital status, sex, pregnancy, national origin, ancestry, religion, veteran's status, sexual orientation, or disability shall be directed to the Student Ombudsperson. Individuals wishing to pursue a civil rights complaint beyond the University level should direct their inquiries to:
